Parasailing in the desert is one of the most memorable adventure activities near Jaisalmer. Towed by a vehicle across flat sand, you rise into the air under a canopy and see the dunes spread out below you.
How desert parasailing works
Unlike parasailing at the beach, desert parasailing uses a vehicle on open ground rather than a boat on water. You are fitted with a harness attached to a parachute-style canopy, which is connected to the vehicle by a towline. As the vehicle moves forward, the canopy fills with air and lifts you off the ground for a short flight before you are brought gently back down.
Operators brief you before each flight, and trained staff handle the launch and landing. You do not need any previous experience, but you do need to follow the instructions closely.
What you see from above
From the air, the patterns of the Thar become clear: the curves of the dunes, the tracks left by camels and jeeps, and the wide horizon. It is a different perspective from anything you experience on the ground, and a favourite with photographers and adventure lovers.
Before you fly
- Activities are run by local operators and depend on weather and wind

- Follow every instruction from the crew
Is parasailing right for you?
Parasailing suits guests who enjoy adventure and are comfortable with heights. It is usually not recommended for young children, pregnant guests or anyone with heart, back or neck conditions. If in doubt, ask the operator before booking.
If you prefer to stay on the ground, a jeep safari or quad biking offers plenty of thrills, while a camel safari is calmer.
