What is quad biking?

A quad bike, also called an ATV or all-terrain vehicle, is a four-wheeled motorbike built for rough ground. Its wide tyres grip the sand, so it is easier to handle than a two-wheeler. Operators give a short briefing on the throttle, brakes and steering before you set off, and usually start you on a gentle loop before heading to the bigger dunes.

Rides are typically short, and many operators offer a choice of durations. Some also offer dune buggies, which seat two and are a good option if one of you would rather be a passenger.

Safety first

Quad biking is fun, but it needs care. Always wear the helmet provided, keep to the routes set by the operator and ride at a speed you are comfortable with. Sand can be uneven, so slow down on descents and avoid sharp turns at speed.
